Responsibilities:

Preoperative Care: Prepare patients for surgery by conducting preoperative assessments, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring that all necessary preoperative protocols are followed. Collaborate with the surgical team to verify patient identification, surgical site, and procedural details. Administer preoperative medications and provide emotional support to alleviate anxiety and promote relaxation.

Intraoperative Support: Assist the surgical team during surgical procedures by providing sterile instruments and supplies, maintaining aseptic technique, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications and intravenous fluids, and document intraoperative events accurately. Act as a patient advocate to ensure patient safety and well-being throughout the surgical process.

Postoperative Care: Transition patients from the operating theatre to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or recovery area and provide immediate postoperative care. Monitor patients closely for signs of anesthesia emergence, airway obstruction, pain, and surgical complications. Collaborate with the PACU team to assess patient readiness for discharge and facilitate smooth transitions of care.

Surgical Instrumentation and Equipment: Assist with the setup and maintenance of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies in the operating theatre. Ensure that all instruments are sterile, functional, and readily available for use during surgical procedures. Follow established protocols for instrument sterilization, storage, and disposal to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

Documentation and Communication: Document all aspects of patient care, including preoperative assessments, intraoperative events, and postoperative outcomes, accurately and comprehensively. Communicate effectively with members of the surgical team, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless coordination of care and optimal patient outcomes.
